I am not sure how well he slept considering he was up AND dressed by 5:45 a.m. Geez...that is just entirely too early for me!! He got up, got all of the things he needed to do, done and fixed breakfast for himself and his sister. I just can't wait to see how long this lasts before I have to tell him at least 10 times he HAS to get out of bed. I did hear him say, as we drove to school, "I am tired." Yep, the 5:30 wake up time will not last long!
Doodlebug #2 crawled in bed with me for a few more minutes only wishing she could go back to sleep. When that failed her, she asked if it was all right for her to just get up and get ready because she did not want to be late for Kindergarten. So, we got up and got going.
Lunches were made, teeth were brushed, outfits were assembled and put on and Doodlebug #2 had on her backpack at 6:45 ready to go. She just couldn't understand why she had to wait and why the teachers wouldn't be there. I WAS the first day of school. Didn't they know that? LoL!
Finally, when it was time to leave, the nerves set in a bit. DB#1 wondered who of his friends would already be there and if he would be able to find them when he got out at the break area. Luckily, he spotted a group of them before we even pulled in to the turn around. DB#2 was raring to go until we hit the 2nd ramp heading down the hall. She just stopped and looked at me like she might change her mind about this big, new school. She was UNUSUALLY quiet as we continued the walk to her room. Not a tear was shed as she quickly started coloring.
Yep, they did great and so did I, after a few hard swallows, trying to keep my tears and nerves in check! I am so excited for each of them and I just know they will have a wonderful school year!

Welcome Back
Summer's over ... it was fun
Now it's time to get things done
Catch the bus and be on time
Standing straight in all those lines
Getting homework every day
Do it quick and then go play
Early nights and days so full
Following those school time rules
Do your best and you will see
Life will go by so quickly
For one day when you are grown
Your lessons written all in stone
You will know that in the end
These the best days you will spend
Sharing knowledge doing well
Your future has a lot to tell.
